Shakespeare Jail

OK, so it wasn't really jail, but wouldn't that be kind of cool? You know, go to jail and study Shakespeare the whole time?

Last week, I returned home to Seattle after being gone for 5 weeks. I left for NYC with my son, and we enjoyed a long weekend in Manhattan (3 shows) before I dropped him off at camp. Then I was off to Smith College for four fabulous weeks at the National Institute for Teaching Shakespeare, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

In a nutshell: the dorm was hot, the days were long, the drinks were cold and the people made it all worthwhile. It was, by far, the most rewarding professional development experience of my teaching career. Those four weeks have changed how I see myself as a teacher.

My greatest accomplishment, however, was the following: I drove a Hyundai Sonata for an entire month and put over 4000 miles on it. Woo-hoo! Love the free rental miles!
