August Wilson, A Voice Silenced
I have just heard of the passing of August Wilson, America's Greatest Playwright. I am filled with a deep and profound sadness at the passing of this great man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and daughter.
I hold a couple of theatre memories quite dear, but one is very special to me: in 2002, I shared a bill with Mr. Wilson. His comments to me afterward were generous and kind. I loved listening to him talk about his work, and I was fortunate, indeed, to get to hear him in private settings on more than a few occassions. His energy, vision, and talents were indisputable.
I mourn the loss of his voice, yet I know that his plays will live on for generations. Rest, August.
